Set up Reference

This set upreference is a consolidated set up guide of the manual to help easy set up. Set up step by step, and it is important to check with care before spool up

Caution : Unplug the motor prior to any set up process

1. Gyro installation

Install Gyro onto a flat plane on the heli with the cable connectors facing either the nose or tail as below photos and must be 90 degree along the elevator axis, NEVER TO THE SIDE. Gyro must not be able to be in contact with the frame or other objects, give sufficeint length so not to pull cables tight.

2. Wiring

The gyro has 11 servo connectors, hook up as follows with -ve pole (brown or black) close to the edge of the gyro

  1. set up connector for USB or cockpit
  2. tail / rudder servo
  3. rudder input from Rx
  4. alieron input from Rx
  5. elevator input from Rx
  6. pitch input from Rx
  7. flight option switch (optional from any Rx spare channel, a three level flip switch will allow in-flight switching between three different set up)
  8. cyclic servo 1
  9. cyclic servo 2
  10. cyclic servo 3
  11. cyclic servo 4 (if available)

Servo links to the gyro

2. Radio Set up

  1. Select a new page
  2. select "normal", "one servo" or "H-1" swash plate type, the gyro will do the swash mixing
  3. zero trim everything
  4. set end point (ATV) of pitch, elevator and aileron to 100% on both ends

3. Set up mode

Unplug ball links from all servos, turn on the Tx and Rx, connect the set up cable to the USB cable or cockpit box and center all sticks. You can browse the menu by:

  1. Hold the button (space bar for USB cable) over two seconds to enter main menu
  2. Use rudder input to move along the main menu and change data
  3. Press the button to move along the sub-menu

Following flow chart shows the path of menu to go through, always starts in "System Running", ALWAYS UNPLUG THE SET UP DEVICE ONLY IN "SYSTEM RUNNING" PAGE, OTHERWISE, CHANGE TO DATA MAY NOT BE STORED

Go into "Rudder Base" to set up the rudder and "Swashplate Base" to set up the cyclic control. Then adjust the gyro data as in step 4.

4. Gyro data set up for first flight

If you connected connector 7 into a spare channel with a flip switch, you can choose between up to three different profiles, the profile selected shows on the top right corner of the cockpit. Never switch between "standard" and any of the" beginner mode", this promises a crash.

In the "Rudder Tuning" menu, Rudder "P" and "I" are used to adjust the rudder sensitivity, initially, set :

Rudder "P" to 300 - this controls how solid the piro stops; excessive gain will cause oscillation on stop, inadequate gain will not hold tail on stop. Low P value flies the heli in gyro normal mode

Rudder "I" to 300 - this acts similar as the gyro gain

In the "Swashplate Tuning" menu, there are more values available for adjustment,

  1. Flybar - select if your heli still have a flybar or not
  2. Mode - options between standard mode (no auto leveling function), beginner modes (auto leveling in 900 model only, Beginner Acro mode with inverted auto leveling ability)
  3. "P"values for elevator and aileron - both set to 250
  4. "I" values for elevator and aileron - both set to 400
  5. "Feedback "for elevator and aileron - both set to 10
  6. "Piro Optimization" and "Piro Optimization Threshold" - both to zero
  7. "Deadband" - set to 30, if cyclic servos move with cyclic stick centered, increase the value till this disappear

If you selected a beginner mode, set the

  1. Beginner Angle - to 20 degree (this only appears in the beginner mode governing how much deflection the heli can tilt in this mode
  2. Beginner Gain - to 350, this governs how quick the system response to a center sitck "bail out"
  3. Beginner Override - to 50, the high value this parameter, the more control by the pilot, system tends to have more control with a lower value

Pre-flight radio set up

Go to "System Running" page and unplug the cockpit or USB cable. Swtich off the RX and set up the Tx with :

ATV of Elevator and Aileron at 20% on both ends - The cyclic roll rate is governed by the ATV of Tx, the higher value will give a faster roll rate, up to the mechanical limitation of the rotorhead

ATV of rudder to 60% on both ends, again the prio rate governed by this up to the limitation of mechanical set up

Expo of both cyclic to 50% and Rudder Expo to 30%

Now, the gyro needed to be calibrated either by swtich the Rx off and on again or via the "calibrate" function in the menu, calibration must done after data changed, heli must be set at level during calibration

Please read the Tuning Guide to fine tune the gyro for best performance
